Style:
The project started as a commission by my uncle of a metal-working friend who sculpts figures from raw steel. Sadly the sculpter has since passed away due to illness. My uncle commissioned me to finish by painting it any style I liked. My inspiration was the cow scupltures around Chicago a few years ago, many of which represented famous works of art. I choose the painter Mondrian whose bright, geometric style would make the turtle stand out in the garden.
The process took two days. Using Rustoleum paints, I started with two coats of flat white primer. After drying overnight, I laided out the grid using masking tape and painted in the black outlines. From there it was two coats of each color and let it dry overnight. I chose only to paint the shell area to make him recognizably turtle-like.
He went home to my aunt as a present on Christmas day. :)
